All these writing terms. What do they mean, anyway?
shirt
Should you learn them all?
Think of them as your tool chest. Learn how to “operate” them and keep them sharp and tidy. Then it’s up to you when you pull them out and put to best use. Or not.
However, I think it’s ironic that I can’t understand this definition of irony from Merriam-Webster.com:
: a pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another assumed in order to make the other’s false conceptions conspicuous by adroit questioning.
Ow.
Uhhhh…*glazed look*…adroit…
I like the tshirt. 🙂
I'm too tired to figure out what that definition means. **yawn
Is it ironic to define something with no meaning?
how about if we use a metaphor to define it? **snicker
I thought 'ironic' meant entirely made of iron
and adroit was a human-like robot.
That Webster guy is wrong!
adroit = robot lol!!!!!
Uh, wow. The shirt is cool, but the dictionary is slightly screwed up. I think whoever wrote that down didn't know himself, so strung together some mumbo-jumbo.
I KNOW. Isn't the point of writing to communicate something? This fails.
Yeah, that definition makes no sense at all. I recently tried to explain irony to my six and three year old. That was interesting…
With stuff like this, age doesn't help. Maybe being little is even an advantage!
Love the shirt! Am confused by the dictionary …
Glad I'm not the only person confused by that!–The Wrinkly One
Ok. So I understand the definition. If that's a true meaning of irony, it seems to be a rather obscure one.
It seems if a person really focuses, and reads it several times, they can winkle out the meaning. But I rather admire clarity.
True. Whoever wrote it could have used fewer $10 words, but the sentence structure is about as clean as you can get if you try to explain the concept in a single sentence fragment. I don't think there's really any other way to simplify the sentence structure without resorting to multiple sentences.
ROFL I so have to have one of these!
That's the worst dictionary definition I've ever read, and I think I know what irony means.
The shirt, though, I love. 🙂
I wanna buy it…:)
